10 TIPS TO HELP YOU PACK LIKE A PRO

It's no secret that I love traveling, but packing for an upcoming trip can sometimes be overwhelming. The more I travel, the more I realize how important it is to stay organized. Even if you're a last-minute packer (like me), these packing tips are sure to help you travel like a pro!

1. Invest in a quality suitcase.

My current favorite is the medium-sized 24" Fibertech suitcase from iFLY Luggage. (PS: I'm currently giving one away on Instagram, so don't forget to enter!). The medium size is perfect for those in-between trips when my large check-in bag is too big and a carry-on is too small. Having a reliable suitcase during your travels is crucial to ensuring all your valuables remain safe and secure. You want to make sure it's lightweight, durable and -- my personal requirement -- has 4 wheels to allow 360 degree navigation to make rolling it a breeze! Bonus: all of iFLY Luggage's bags come with a 10 year warranty!

2. Make a list and check it twice.

Research all the possible things you might need for your specific travel destination and create a list. Consider weather conditions, items that your accommodations or tours won't provide, and how long you'll be gone. Is it going to rain? Pack an umbrella. Going somewhere tropical? Don't forget a hat, sunglasses and some sunscreen.  Although some destinations may have shops for you to purchase what you left at home, it'll cost you! Check off each item as you place it in your suitcase and do one final check before you leave.

3. Organize your accessories.

Utilize small pouches to group similar items together. This helps to condense several things into a small amount of space. I like to store all my toiletries in one pouch, beauty/makeup products in a separate one, and electronics in another.

4. Keep it small.

Transport your shampoos and lotions in small travel-sized bottles. If you have medications, don't bring the entire bottle -- carry just enough pills to last you through the trip. Purchase travel size items (like toothpaste and sunscreen) instead of carrying the full size ones. Trust me, these things add up in terms of space and weight! FYI: You can find mini empty bottles at Target or Walgreens and pour a bit of your daily essentials in them to avoid lugging around an entire bottle!

5. Prevent Spills.

Store your liquids (shampoos, lotions, etc.) in zip lock bags to prevent any potential unwanted disasters. Your clothes and accessories will thank you!

6. Plan your outfit by day.

How many of you have thrown a surplus of clothing into your suitcase at the last minute only to find that most of the items go unused during your trip? Guilty. Planning your outfits ahead of time will help you resist the urge to toss separates that will take up unnecessary space in your suitcase. Instead, plan your outfits with a theme in mind (see below!).

7. Choose a color scheme.

Selecting a color scheme and bringing staple items that you can re-wear with multiple outfits is key! I like to pack lots of black, white and grey pieces so I can mix and match. As a travel blogger, I recognize the importance of saving space without compromising style. Accessorize with a statement necklace or a colorful scarf that won't take up too much room in your suitcase.

8. Pack strategically.

Organize the items in your suitcase based on when you'll need them. If you have a multi-city itinerary, pack your outfits for the last place at the bottom and place items that you'll need immediately upon arrival to your destination at the very top of your suitcase.

9. Wear your heaviest layers on the plane.

Carrying your thickest coat or wearing your heaviest boots on the plane leaves you with more room in your suitcase to pack other essentials. This also keeps the weight of your bag to a minimum and prevents any overweight bag surprises upon check-in.

10. Take an empty bag.

Have you ever wanted to buy a keepsake for your home or souvenirs for family and friends while abroad, but then realize there's no space in your suitcase? I love packing an extra duffle bag at the bottom of my suitcase so I have a little wiggle room on the way back!
